Alexander Joseph Young, a vibrant and beloved 11-year-old boy from Whitman, Massachusetts, passed away on Saturday, April 12th, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. His bright spirit, boundless curiosity, and joyful heart left a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Born on December 27, 2013, Alexander was the cherished son of Eric Young and the late Kimberly Hood. Though his life was far too short, Alex lived it with courage, joy, and a sense of wonder that touched everyone around him.

Alex was a proud member of Boy Scout Troop 22 in Whitman, a committed athlete in the Whitman Little League, and a spirited competitor in the youth bowling league at Timber Lanes in Abington. Whether he was pitching a ball or knocking down pins, Alex’s enthusiasm and positive energy stood out.

He had a passion for adventure—especially camping and traveling with his family. He found joy in the rhythm of train tracks and the sleek lines of luxury cars, a fascination that brought him immeasurable excitement. Among his most treasured experiences was a Make-A-Wish trip to New York City aboard Amtrak, a journey that filled him with awe and delight. He also relished a special trip to North Carolina, where he had the unforgettable thrill of riding in his Uncle Charlie’s Porsche 911.

Alex’s sweet nature, sense of humor, and love for life made him a treasured son, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. He is survived by his loving father, Eric Young of Whitman; his grandparents, Kathleen and Donald Young of Whitman, and Patricia and Joseph Hood of Carver; his Aunt Victoria (Hood) Tibbetts and her husband Jason of Hanson; and his Uncle Joseph Hood and his wife Kathleen of Plymouth. He is also lovingly remembered by his cousins, Bella and Lucas, along with a wide circle of extended family members who were blessed to be part of his journey.

He now joins his mother, Kimberly Hood, in eternal rest.

Family and friends are invited to honor Alexander’s life during visiting hours on Wednesday, April 16th, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Route 58 at the rotary) in Whitman. A funeral procession will depart the chapel on Thursday, April 17th, at 9:45 AM, followed by a prayer service at 10:30 AM at Holy Ghost Church in Whitman. Alex will be laid to rest at Blue Hills Cemetery in Braintree.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Team Siena, in honor of Alex’s role as a Pedal Partner for the Pan-Mass Challenge. Contributions support the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, continuing Alex’s legacy of courage and hope.

Though Alex’s time on Earth was brief, his memory and spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
