Jason Swanson, A member of Loss Prevention Industry died in a car accident

The loss prevention industry and countless friends across the world are reeling from the devastating news of Jason Swanson’s passing in a car accident on April 16th. Known for his boundless energy, authenticity, and deep commitment to both his profession and his family, Jason “J-Bone” Swanson leaves behind a legacy that is as heartfelt as it is profound.

Jason’s journey into loss prevention began in the most unexpected way—walking into a GAP store at the Mall of America to buy a pair of shorts, and walking out with a job that would lead to a lifelong career and impact in the industry. From that serendipitous start, Jason’s charisma and natural leadership quickly made him a standout. He wasn’t just respected—he was beloved.

Kevin Stewart, a longtime friend and colleague of nearly 25 years, shared a heartfelt tribute:

“The world lost a great one last week. I’m honored to have had the privilege to meet and become friends with Jason J-Bone Swanson almost 25 years ago. Jason captured hearts as his career progressed and he made many, many lifelong friends along the way. Including the heart of the love of his life, Katie Swanson.”

Jason’s adventurous spirit was legendary. His passion for life took him around the world—from performing in far-off countries to living on a boat, and ultimately embracing life in the mountains, where he thrived as a true “powder ripper.” Yet despite his many travels and the vastness of his experiences, Jason’s heart always remained at home—with his wife Katie and their two sons, Lochlan and Crosby. To him, they were his greatest accomplishment.

Stewart continued,

“I’ve always admired Jason’s ability to live life to the fullest. He was a standout amongst standouts in pretty much anything he set his mind to. But it was how he was in the moment so often. You always got the authentic version of him whether you wanted it or not.”

Jason Swanson was more than a professional; he was a force of nature. Whether in the boardroom, on the slopes, or simply among friends, his genuine presence made an indelible impact. His laughter, honesty, and zest for life inspired those lucky enough to know him—and his loss is felt deeply by all.

As the industry mourns the loss of a leader, friend, and family man, tributes continue to pour in, painting a picture of a man who truly lived, loved, and gave of himself without reserve. His legacy will live on not only through his professional contributions but also through the memories and love he gave so freely.

“Until next time, brother,” Stewart concluded, “I love you, J-Bone.”

Jason Swanson is survived by his wife Katie, and sons Lochlan and Crosby, along with an entire community who will never forget his light.
